Poem: Savage Serpent

Chilling eyes despite the heat
of a searing black flame,
never banked to coals,
always fierce and wild.

Teal scales splattered
with splotches of vivid crimson,
edged to a wicked sharpness
and abrasive to the touch.

Teeth, thick as a man’s wrist,
dirty ivory, speckled
with remnants of past meals,
past victims.
