Music Monday: Drivin’ My Life Away by Eddie Rabbit

Still with the ‘guilty pleasures’ theme…

I may have confessed before that I like a little bit of country. And I’ve shared a couple of songs that were a little bit country. But I kinda like some songs that are a LOT country too. *Blush*

The funny thing is, at least I have an excuse. My parents-in-law are completely bewildered by the fact that my husband likes some country songs too. Typically he listens to rock, but if you put on The Devil Goes Down To Georgia by the Charlie Daniels Band or Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin, he’ll be singing along and tapping his fingers. *Smile*

We had the most hysterical conversation at his parents’ house one day when we talked about my husband’s like for country music and I proved it to his mother (who didn’t believe me) by playing those two songs *Up* and showing her his reaction to them. Then the whole thing somehow devolved into us looking online for the duelling banjos ringtone so we could assign it to people in his phone. You probably had to be there, but it was very funny.

As much as the duelling banjos tune has a certain reputation from being played in the Deliverance movie (which I’ve never seen but my husband loves to quote), I actually really like it. It’s catchy (are you seeing a trend here?) and it takes a lot of skill to play.

But that’s actually not the song I’m sharing with you. Although I do like duelling banjos, I don’t listen to it as a matter of course. That is to say, it’s not on any of my playlists. Few country songs are, but I’ll share one with you. I love to listen to this song while I’m driving, for obvious reasons.

Ooh, I’m drivin’ my life away, lookin’ for a better way for me
Ooh, I’m drivin’ my life away, lookin’ for a sunny day
