Excluded (free verse poem)

Prompt: The need to belong and the sense of being alone all the time.

Conversations cruised past with
the natural flow and rhythm that
spoke of an ease in each other’s
company, that enviable comfort
of being oneself, and I…
I sat in silence, knowing my
individuality wasn’t welcome,
and I wasn’t up to pretending
anymore.
